Hurricane Hits Feb 24 —
And a New Firefly ARC Is Coming
The storm arrives in days. Your shield is going to hate it. And Embark is teasing something electric lurking in the February lineup — a brand new Firefly-type ARC.

- February 24 — Hurricane map condition goes live in Southern Italy / Speranza
- Wind affects movement, stamina, throwables, gas, smoke, and jumping
- Debris will glitch and degrade your shield in the open
- Low visibility = harder to be spotted when shieldless — use it
- First Wave Caches have been unearthed by the storm — loot opportunity
- Embark has teased a new Firefly-type ARC for February via audio + visual
🌀 The Hurricane Is Not a Joke
Embark isn't easing you into this one. On February 24th, a full Hurricane-class map condition drops on the Rust Belt — and it's going to fundamentally change how you play topside. Not "oh the lighting is different" change. Everything is different change.
The premise is this: it's 2181, the climate is completely cooked, and southern Italy's Speranza region is about to get battered. Shani is locking the bunker down. Nobody's supposed to leave. You're leaving anyway. Because of course you are.
💬 OUR TAKE
Honestly, this is the kind of content update that keeps extraction games alive. Dynamic weather that actually affects mechanics — not just aesthetics — is a big deal. The fact that your shield becomes a liability in open areas during this storm is a genuinely interesting design decision. Build around it or suffer.
💨 What Actually Changes — Mechanic by Mechanic
Wind & Movement
With the tailwind at your back you'll feel faster and lighter — lean into it for repositioning and rotations. Fight the wind and your stamina drains fast and your speed tanks. Plan your routes before you push. Moving against a headwind mid-fight is a death sentence.
Throwables are a whole new puzzle. Grenades, smokes, anything you toss — the wind affects trajectory. Expect some embarrassing grenade bouncebacks in your first few games. Consider this your early warning.
Debris & Your Shield
Out in the open, the debris storm constantly pelts your shield, causing it to glitch, spark, and degrade. This makes you both weaker and — critically — more visible to other Raiders looking for your glowing silhouette. In the open, shield = giant "shoot me" sign.
Visibility in the Hurricane — don't expect to see anything coming
Visibility
Low clouds, storm haze, chaos. Vision is severely limited topside. ARC units can materialize out of nowhere. But flip it around: shieldless Raiders are genuinely hard to spot in the storm. This creates a fascinating risk/reward loop. Do you keep the shield up for the protection, or ditch it for stealth?
💬 OUR TAKE
The shieldless stealth angle is really clever. Most map modifiers add difficulty. This one adds decision-making. The best players this week are going to be the ones who figure out exactly when to drop their shield and disappear into the storm. We love to see it.
First Wave Caches
The storm isn't all bad news. The wind has unearthed First Wave Raider Caches across the map — high-value loot from the earliest generation of Raiders. They're out there. So is every other squad on the server. The storm is your cover and your competition simultaneously.

🔥 A New Firefly ARC Is Coming
Beyond the storm itself, Embark has been quietly teasing something new on Twitter — and it's got people excited. A Firefly-type ARC is on the way for February, teased through both an audio drop and a visual reveal. The Firefly icon is right there on the February ARC schedule image, glowing like it knows exactly what it's doing to us.
We spotted the strange movement before Embark revealed and confirmed it would be a Firefly. Here's the clip:

February's new ARC — that Firefly icon is right there and we are not calm about it
Embark dropped a visual teaser first — the clip that got everyone talking:
And then they followed it up with an audio teaser — because one tease is never enough when you're Embark and you know exactly how to work a crowd:
💬 OUR TAKE
A Firefly-type ARC is genuinely new design territory for Arc Raiders. We've been dealing with bulky, heavy-hitter ARC types — the idea of a fast, light-emitting swarm-style threat is a completely different tactical problem. We're already dreading encountering a pack of these things during the Hurricane with zero visibility. It sounds horrible in the best possible way.
🧠 How to Not Die in the Hurricane
Quick tips to keep in your back pocket when Feb 24 hits:
- Learn the wind direction early — use tailwind rotations to close distance faster
- Drop your shield in open areas — debris degradation makes you a glowing target
- Adjust your grenade throws — aim shorter, account for wind drift
- First Wave Caches are contested — treat those zones like hot drop spots
- Low visibility cuts both ways — push through the storm, not around it
- Listen. The wind is loud, but footsteps and ARC movement still cut through if you pay attention
The Bottom Line
The Hurricane map condition is one of the most mechanically interesting updates Arc Raiders has shipped. It doesn't just add a visual filter — it rewrites how movement, combat, detection, and looting all work simultaneously. Combined with the incoming Firefly ARC, February is shaping up to be a legitimately exciting month for the game.
Prep your loadout, practice your grenade trajectories somewhere safe, and clear your calendar for February 24th. The storm doesn't care about your plans.
